Hair experts..Does black hair only suit people with darker complexions?

I have fair to mid skin tone and naturally light brown hair with gold tones... Someone told me that if i dye my hair black i will have to wear a lot of makeup as i'll look too white...

I'm in my late thirties...What do u think?

Black hair looks stunning on fair skinned, blue eyed people

It might make you look very gothic xxx

Not necessarily. Rose McGowen has a pale complexion and she looked beautiful with black hair. It looks even better when a cherry red lipstick is worn with it because the colors seem to compliment each other.

No but you will have to change your tones of make up. Just experiment a bit a see what looks best. I have fair skin and looked fine with black hair and I don't wear a lot of makeup.

warning from one who has been there...Black is very hard to get rid of. I have gone black twice and both times ended up cutting it all off when I decided I didn't want it anymore.

I think black hair looks best on people with a paler complexion.

No, it depends. I have naturally dark hair but my skin is fairly light.

I thought looking paler was the point of black hair then again I am goth. Try a shade close to your skin tone.

I'm not an expert but am often told I have good taist.

You see lots of lighter skinned women with black hair and looks really good.

I think the only hair to skin combo that looks bad is dark skinned people with blond hair just because it doesn't look natural. (relax, I'm dark skinned too)

I personally think that black hair looks really nice on fair skin tones, especially with red lips.

I'm not sure about how it'll seem without makeup, but I say go for it.

Black hair can really make a complexion look "washed out", however if you get the shape and length of your hair right you can avoid this. The best way to do this is to get a shaped cut that frames your face well, easier said than done but a good hairdresser will have lots of suggestions, i use Daniel Gray and toni and Guy. Also black hair often looks more wiry and so can age you so make sure you go for a good leave in conditioner if you do decide to go black. Finally don't worry as if it goes wrong just slap on the fake tan! lol

Hi Ihave very pale skin and this is the colour I suit most and everyone says it looks lovely.

People have told me that pale skin people shouldnt dye there hair black , as it make them look washed out but actually I look, like I have more colour as for some reason it birngs out the colour of my cheeks etc, but when I have it blonde or light brown that makes me look washed out, this could be because although my natural hair colour is light brown I do have dark eyes and eye brows. lol

You wont have to wear alot of make up as but wearing make up looks even better with dark hair even if you are not wearing any. You wont look too white, all you will need is a blusher that suits your skin colour to give you a hint of colour and thats it, This is coming from a girl who is so pale she is almost see through, lol and I didnt look gothic at all either. I looked more healthy and people even commented on how lovely it looked which never get if I am brown or blonde.

my natural color is red. i have fair skin. i've had my hair dyed black for a couple of years, and i get the best compliments. most people dont even know i'm a natural redhead. however, just a few pointers..

*try a black wig first and get an idea of how you will look. black is by far the hardest color to remove, and it can really damage your hair to get the black out..(i learned the hard way). make sure you really want to take that step when you do.

*because my brows are light red, i darken them(pencils, kohl, or waterproof mascara) to match my hair..this is where u can really fool people. but try not to go too heavy with the black brows, or blood red lipstick (unless you like the goth look).

*it is by far the easiest color to maintain. after paying salons for such a simple color, i now have a friend dye my roots (remember to wear protective gloves). with black dye color, u can't go wrong or mess the coloring up. the lighter the natural color, the longer the dye should sit.

*whoever dyes your hair should take great care, and attention to your hairline. if this is not done neatly, the uneven two-toned hairline with black is the worst.

*dying it yourself can get really messy. and you will spend days trying to scrub the black dye off your face, ears, neck, and hands.

*remember, the lighter your natural color, the more often you will have to color the roots. the lighter roots really show as it grows out. because my strawberry blonde is so light, i have to touch up my roots every 3 to 4 weeks.

*just about any coloring goes with black, so you'll have a ton of fun trying different shades of make-up and clothes. u dont need a ton of makeup if you dont want to. normally, I darken my brows a bit, apply black mascara (my lashes are light), and lightly touch up with a only bit of blush to give me a healthy color.

good luck and have fun!!
