I have naturally black hair, I tried to do this once my hair looked like a carrot.. it was like burnt orange! I have coarse hair, whats the best plan of attack?

I would go to a professional. It's very difficult to lighten hair...even from black to brown. At the salon they can watch your hair and if it does turn orange, they have a product to take out the orange tones. If you don't want to go to the salon, try going to a beauty supply store and talk to them. They are very helpful and sell the products to get rid of the orange tones. Works great!! I've had to use it a few times. I wouldn't suggest striping your hair...it will make it brittle and break. Make sure to get a really good conditioner to use after you color it. Good luck!
