if you arent black why are you so worried about our hair lol it makes me laugh when people come up to me and they ask if its my real hair what black people arent allowed to have long hair so i tell them yes this is my natural hair and yes its long because i dont wear weave because my hair is long dang lol people are so ignorant now a days then they ask to touch my hair hell no why do people want to touch a blacks persons hair and why do yall want to know so much about black hair

I'm thinking more on the level that the media portrays...You're sure to see a movie or maybe Jerry Springer with a black woman pulling off her wig, or talking about their weave.

There are black people with long hair, I can't even say it's rare. Some people aren't used to seeing a large spectrum of blacks, and they may watch a lot of television...on tv all the stars wear weave, whites, blacks, hispanics wear weave especially if they're stars. Whereas most people assume that other races don't wear weave. Black women are more openly admitting to wearing weaves, in other races it's hush-hush. I didn't know so many caucasian stars wear weave..but it's a lot of them.

So I think that a lot of individuals assume that black women hair doesn't grow long. But they'd be amazed if they knew the truth. The fact remains that regardless of what race you're in all people have different lengths of hair..and that's a fact. There's a lot of other races with short hair, but no one thinks much of it. No one assumes that their hair doesn't grow... So I feel what you are saying....People shouldn't stereotype..but they do

I agree that people should be careful about asking if they can touch your hair. Although they may be curious. To touch someone's hair should be reserved for friends, or family. If they present themselves to want to feel on you as if you're on a petting farm that can be pretty offensive.

You know, people have a natural curiosity about any thing or one who is different then themselves. It is USUALLY not done as an insult but more out of curiosity.

If we all lighten up a bit and become receptive to learning more about others, weather a different race, gender, geopgraphical region, religion, maybe we could...in the words of Rodney King..."all get along."

because people are naturally curious, and maybe they have never been in a situation to where they could ask. you probably just have that anyone can ask me anything look, you're approachable. so people feel compelled to ask you.

Well, I am mixed with Black, Asian, White and Latina and I look kind of Asian/Latina (My skin tans really nicely in the summer and turns annoyingly pail in the winter...so does my looks so you can't tell what I am..I'm just Hott...lol) and my hair is naturally curly.

One espisode growing up in NYC (in my teens) I was faced with in numerous situations where Asian, Black, White, and Latina/o people would call me out and out loud say "I hate Asians with fake curly hair" or someone would compliment my curls and their friend would blurt out really loud "yeah, but too bad it's not real!!" .. Ha Ha Ha ..yup so you know what my dear?

Who cares what anybody says because nobody knows you more then YOU know yourself and NOT caring what others think (all the way) will help you succeed in life.

Don't try to change what other people think or feel but be concerned with your own mind and changing the way YOU think, that's all you could do and that is what I've learned as a human being.

No one is perfect in life so don't point fingers, just change yourself.

I have really long hair and the same thing happens to me. People will ask me if its real or not and ask me if I get a relaxer or if I'm mixed. I just laugh it off and answer the questions i don't find it that serious. If you think about it you might have done it yourself. Have you ever seen a black person with green eyes and asked them is they were contacts? I have. I know there are black people out there with eye color's other than brown but like black people with long hair, sometimes it's rare. So out of curiosity If I'm talking to somebody and I can't help but to notice their eyes I MIGHT ask. Also, on the whole "ignorance" issue, black people ask me if my hair is real more than any other race. Black people are also the ones who are most surprised when I say it's real. SO I GUESS YOU'RE SAYING BLACKS IGNORANT??? Think about what you say before you say it and avoid hasty generalizations. Obviously it's my race too, but if you say "people are ignorant now a days" and the majority of those "people" are blacks then you're saying blacks are ignorant..

I hear ya sista. We women of color are not allowed to grow long hair. Every one wants to know who does your weave, or wear did you buy your hair? Can I touch it? I try not to let it bother me. I like to see the expression on their faces when I tell them IT"S NOT STORE BOUGHT!!!!! It's homegrown.

Most ask are they real cuz most are weave or extensions xD. And its kinda rare to find blacks with long hair :x. Most are medium length. But it is possible for real long hair for blacks depending on how you take care of your hair.
